Medusa is one of the most iconic figures in Greek mythology, known as one of the Gorgons—three monstrous sisters born of the sea deities Phorcys and Ceto. Unlike her immortal sisters, Medusa was mortal, and she possessed a unique and terrifying power: her gaze could turn anyone who looked directly at her into stone.

Originally, Medusa was described as a beautiful maiden, but her fate took a tragic turn. In one version of the myth, she was transformed into a monster by the goddess Athena as punishment after being violated by the god Poseidon in Athena's temple. After this transformation, Medusa’s beauty was replaced with fearsome features, most notably her hair, which turned into a nest of venomous snakes.
